How Often to Clean Carpet

If you have wall to wall carpeting or just a rug area, vacuuming at least twice per week is a must. Start vacuuming horizontal then move to vertical to ensure all the dust and dirt is picked up from the pile. Spills and Stains however should be treated as quickly as possible, if you have a spot cleaner machine you can perform this your self, failing that consider hiring your professional carpet cleaners Aqua Team where we can offer an urgent call out to get them stains removed. That a side its always advised to perform a deeper clean at least twice per year to ensure the longevity of your carpets withstand the test of time.

Clean With Distilled White Vinegar

Again always begin any cleaning process by vacuuming the carpet to remove loose soil, dust, dirt, and debris. If you skip this step, you may just be pushing soil around or driving it deeper into the fibers. Removing some stains like oil, tar, and pet accidents will require special treatment by hiring a professional

In a spray bottle, mix one part of distilled white vinegar and three parts of cold water. You will need to refill the bottle several times if cleaning a wall-to-wall carpet.

---Warning---

Before beginning spray the vinegar solution on a hidden part of the carpet to test out the colourfastness of the carpet, last thing we want is colour bleeding or change of colour on the carpets.

Working in a small 2-feet x 2-feet area, spray the vinegar solution onto the carpet until it's very damp. Do not over saturate. Follow the grid so you'll know what area you have cleaned.

Allow the solution to be absorbed for 4-6 minutes, this will break down any dirt in the area. Using a microfiber cloth, blot the solution. Have a clean bucket of water at the ready to rinse the cloth while ensuring you regular change the water to prevent it becoming to dirty.

Open the doors and windows to allow the carpet to air dry while avoiding any foot traffic until fully dry.

Clean With Steam

If you have a clothes steamer or steam mop, they can be used to deep clean carpets too.

As always - Vacuum the carpet to remove loose soil and pre-treat stained areas with Baking Soda and Salt.

Sprinkle the carpet with the baking soda and salt mixture while using the same grid pattern above. After sprinkling, hold the steamer head about six inches from the carpet. Allow the steam to dampen the carpet as well as using a scrub brush to get more into them fibres.

Use old towels to absorb the loosened soil. Allow the carpet to dry completely like the steps above, then vacuum to remove any residue remaining in the carpet.

Before proceeding with any remedial work its always advisable to speak to contact a carpet cleaning professional.
